Over the years, we have developed some statistics on the popularity of the safes we sell and it has emerged beyond doubt that what customers come to us for is the small home safe. And what is that? Home safes are, despite appearances to the contrary, a broad category: compact devices, small home safes that you pack into a cupboard and keep important documents, petty cash and some jewellery in, are all suitable for home use, but it could just as well be a piece of solid safe that has room for more serious valuables, securities, perhaps gold bars or watches. When choosing a home safe anyway, you need to answer some questions, which you are about to read.

What is a home safe useful for?

It's hardly going to be revealing, but a home safe is used to keep secure what's valuable in your home. Seemingly a cliché, but let's think about it. You 100% have a mass of important documents at home, such as deeds, contracts, policies, certificates, diplomas, invoices.

Following the paper trail further, it's generally a good idea to have some cash in the house. Probably not a lot, as larger assets are more likely to be kept in a bank, however, a dozen thousand zlotys or so is a value worth protecting against theft.

Speaking of money, there is always jewellery. While in a typically male household it usually boils down to a wedding ring (although since it is typically male, it is rather as a keepsake ;-)), cufflinks and a watch. If, on the other hand, one of the household members is a woman, you can be sure that the collection of jewellery and valuables will grow over the years. And that's a good thing – jewellery is a good investment. Thieves know this, which is why it's a good idea to keep such things safe.

There are more valuable items, precious metals, gold or platinum bars have been growing in popularity for years, and by definition these should be kept in a safe place.

And last but not least, the most valuable items, although they cannot be converted into cash – family heirlooms, items of sentimental value, the loss of which hurts the most.

Which home safe to choose?

If we assume that our dream home safe is to be suitable for a little bit of everything we listed in the previous paragraph, the D 109-08 model usually emerges from our range. What is this product?

The D 109 series of safes is perhaps the most popular group of safes in our range. This is not surprising, as these safes have many advantages.

Firstly, this is a group of products with a large number of standard sizes. From the aforementioned, smallest D 109-08 to two-door "monsters" weighing almost a tonne, which can accommodate the entire Narnia with its appendages. Back in our world, however, such a range of standard dimensions allows you to choose the product that best suits your requirements without the need for an expensive custom-made safe (which we do, incidentally). There is therefore a good chance that you will find the most suitable one among the models in the catalogue.

Secondly, the D 109 series products combine two features that make them very good models as home safes. On the one hand, burglary resistance class I according to the EN 1143-1 standard renders it impossible to get into such a safe on the spur of the moment, without the use of special equipment and during the course of a burglary, therefore within several minutes at most.

Thirdly and finally, these are safes that have a tested fire resistance for 60 minutes. The fire protection is certified in accordance with the EN 1047-1 standard.

So, if you have decided to provide effective protection against burglary, you should also protect yourself against fire.

What does the D 109-08 home safe feature?

The D 109-08 is the smallest representative of a series of safes whose purpose can really vary. However, if you are looking for the smallest of these, this will be the one.

This product has external dimensions of 380 mm × 463 mm × 440 mm ( H x W x D), and weighs 105 kg. That's quite a lot considering its really compact dimensions. It is ideal for domestic use because, even counting the 60 mm projection of the handle, its depth is 50 cm, which means that you can fit the safe into any clothes cupboard, perhaps in a wardrobe or sliding cabinet in a hallway.

The body and door of the D 109-08 safe have a multi-walled construction. This means that the door, which is 95 mm thick in total, is not a single steel plate, but a laminate consisting of three elements: steel, technical concrete (which also makes the safe so heavy) and a layer of thermal insulation.

The hinges are routed to the outside of the safe, allowing the door to be opened 180 degrees. 2 fixed bolts prevent access to the inside after the hinges have been cut.

The D 109-08 home safe has one height-adjustable shelf as standard.

As default, all home safes are fitted with key locks, but it is worth investing in electronic locks. There are several models on offer, you can choose the type of lock depending on your needs.
